DUOLINGO

The year 6, 7 & 8's are doing are Bronze, Silver & Gold bars and seeing i'm doing something different already I decided that I would go for Silver. You have an amount of set tasks that you must do over a period of time. For one you could do ' Respect for another culture & learn about about their food, respect & beliefs ' so I picked greece. I will show my work soon. I used duolingo to learn the language and it was great. I have used duolingo for other languages. It is a great web site and I would definitely use it for times.

Jess and Jess - pronouncing maori place names

Jess G and I made a short-ish presentation to try and help people when they pronounce place names around where we live.
We made a muck up with Ahaura and Arahura which are two different places and are also pronounced different.  We'll add a short video to correct this for you.
Thanks for watching : )

The Scotland Boundary

WALT: Writing narratives that will pull the reader's head into the story.
The Scotland boundary

O One sunny day on a Tourist's trip some clumsy tourists were out having their break when they thought to themselves ‘We need more, we want to explore this country so that’s what
we’re going to do.’ So they huddled up and set off for their journey.

C They came to a large paddock and thought ‘ What is this, we never see these at home’. They waited a while and then one little girl said “Why don’t we go through it, it can’t be that bad”. Some thought for a bit then jumped the fence “Let’s go”. Out of the blue arrived Farmer Lee with his ferocious dog Oscar holding a pitchfork in his palms. “What do we have here aye?” The tourists stood still, mouths open with a silent scream. What was going on should they run or will he be friendly. All thoughts ran through their heads hoping to think a of solution but it never came. “Your on ma property now, I can do whatever I like with ya” Suddenly A terrified girl just got out her phone and called the police but little did she know there was no reception. With disbelief she tried over and over and over again but it never worked.

S I had my eye on father and thought that he had done enough, so I tidied up and set out onto the path. It was a wee walk from the house and mother took the horses to town. Meanwhile dad must have been scaring the tourists because I could hear a loud scream about a mile away so I picked up my speed. In the distance I could hear sirens coming this way so I started running. I saw them in a clearing of bush so I headed in that direction.

O When I arrived dad had chased them back so there was another walk. I had caught up to them but I was so exhausted that I fell behind. I saw mother in the distance and she was very surprised and trotted over to see what was happening. “Whats happening here, who are they?” Dad explained what was happening but he told a completely different story. I rushed up saying that dad was scaring these lost tourist. She had believed mine side and she wrapped things up.

E The police arrived and found that they were tourists and took them back to town. Mum was FURIOUS, she was so embarrassed that her cheeks turned bright pink but she was relieved they were gone. The sun was starting to fade so we hopped on the horses and rode home and trust me I wish I had just walk ‘cause this was a noisy ride home.

R Dad finally built a sign  that said ‘If ya come on ma property you'll be sorry’ so that was a job done and mum got a carriage so we can use the horses when she is in town but I think I will have to do that job seeing you need to go past the police station and well the tourists, I think they will just stay away from here. I hope my life will be A LOT easier.

Elsie Locke Writing Competition

For my silver badge I am entering in the Elsie Locke writing comp. This is my piece I am entering in the competition. Hope you like it :)
A long time ago, when my great grandmother, Mary was just a little girl, she was out walking in the bush when she came across something shining in the sun. Wondering what it was, she walked over to find a minuscule music box. But this was no ordinary music box. Shaped like a miniature castle with little people coming in and out of it each heading off into the forest.  The music box was not what Mary had expected. She watched the little people for a short time before she decided to follow them. She hid amongst the trees and crouched silently behind large stones.  They all seemed to come to a stop at an uneventful looking grey rock wall. As each little person arrived they reached out as if to stroke a small clump of moss, and as Mary looked on a sliver of darkness opened up in the solitary rock wall. Then the little person who had just arrived, walked inside. So when the next little person came along Mary crept in behind them. She walked into what appeared to be a small crack in a rock, but before her very eyes she saw an enormous cavern.
A noise!
She turned and strained her ears...
… a creature no higher than Mary’s own knee stood at her feet. She stood in shock, wondering what she should do. As the scaly creature walked a smidgen closer he looked up at her and introduced himself.
“Hello, my name is Tika.  I come from the Land of the Underworld and I am here to take you to there.”
“You don’t be afraid of me” he giggled. “I will become as your friend once you get used to us.” Mary took a deep breath and mustered all her courage before she crouched down and said, “What do you mean by us? Are there more of you?”
“No no!  We will meet some new people on the way,” he whispered, like a frog with a croak.
And so it was that Mary and Tika  set off for their adventure. They clambered across a rocky riverbed before climbing up a small rise to a carpet of lush green grass.  They walked on untroubled. But little did they know that they were about to get themselves into a lot of trouble. Unsuspecting and tired they sat themselves on a fallen log, but once they glanced up Tika  realised where they were. They had just arrived at the Wild Whispering Woods. The taniwha stood up “We must go, before they come.” Mary was confused. “Where must we go? Before who come?”
“The stoats, they will come if we don’t leave now.  Come on.”
They rushed onwards but after a while tired again and slowed down. Out of the blue came a slim, sneaky stoat.
“Now what do we have here?” the lean stoat said with a lowered voice.
“We’re too late.”  Tika whispered to Mary. “They will want to fight!  Stay strong.”
ONWARDS!”

On his command bucket loads of stoats poured out, like water out of a tap flooding towards Mary and Tika.  They ran as fast as they could but their opponents ran faster. The stoats dived on them and they were washed underneath,  into the wave, and slowly started to coil up. She gasped.  Mary’s eyes flew open as she sat up.  Her heart racing, she realised it was just a silly dream.
 The end

The Cobblestone path

WALT: write poetic writing
Cobblestone path

As the children play I get older and weaker.
All day and night, I lay there motionless.
The light blues and greys, faded and turned to rust.
* I am as rough as sandpaper although some children are so tough that they can walk in their bare feet.
*Thousands of cracks, the colour just black, start to suddenly grow.
The rectangular path fits perfectly in the old court corner.
